Doctoral researcher: MAC_DroneAI & DiveReporter-MAC

We are looking for a doctoral researcher with relevant scientific background and experience in managing research projects who is motivated to join us at MARE-Madeira & ARDITI. The ideal candidate has a multi-disciplinary background in marine sciences and experience in engaging stakeholders and communities in citizen science initiatives for marine litter and marine biodiversity monitoring.

The selected candidate will join our team and be actively involved in managing two Interreg Mac Capitalization projects: DiveReporter_MAC and MAC – DroneAI.

DiveReporter_MAC’s main objective is to expand and scale out the Dive-Reporter.org network and monitoring program to Cabo Verde, the Canary Islands and the Azores by collaborating with local research teams and engaging dive centers and operators to collect data on local biodiversity with the assistance of a custom designed mobile app – DiveReporter.

MAC-DroneAI is a project designed to enhance current capabilities in Cabo Verde, the Canary Islands and the Azores to use drone-based remote sensing to map and monitor marine litter in the region. This project is expected to out scale state-of-the-art methods to map and monitor litter pollution that can be combined with in situ sampling for a better understanding of marine litter pollution in the region.
