The last Friday of September is the European Researcher’s Night and throughout Europe, events are held to honour research and researchers. To celebrate Researcher’s Night, MacaroNight includes the four archipelagos of Macaronesia: Azores, Madeira, Canary Islands, and Cabo Verde.
This year’s Macaronight theme was the “Green Deal in the Space of Macaronesia”, hosted by the University of Madeira and stakeholders (Regional Secretariat for Education, the Municipality of Funchal, ARDITI and StartUp Madeira).
This year, the event was held in a hybrid format. MARE-Madeira presented the ongoing research on cetaceans, macroalgae and marine debris, with virtual presentations on scientific diving, drones, and ROVs!
On Friday (24th September) our PhD students Mieke, Sara, Claudio, and Alejandro represented MARE-Madeira in the in-person event to celebrate MacaroNight 2021! Thank you to everyone who came by to learn about marine science and the work conducted at MARE-Maderia, ARDITI, and OOM.
