The need for conservation and sustainable use of the ocean is urgent. In particular, a greater awareness of the population regarding the problem of marine litter is essential. Given this need, the ALIMAR project has the following objectives:

  • Promote greater awareness on the part of the population in general and the school population, for the problem of marine litter, in particular for the problem of plastic in the ocean;
  • Promote active and participatory citizenship for the reduction of marine litter;
  • Promote citizen science through the monitoring of marine litter on beaches, contributing to the assessment of trends in the quantity and quality of marine litter in the Atlantic region;
  • Promoting a reduction in the use of plastic by the population and encouraging changes in behavior that promote a circular economy in the use of plastic.
