José Rúben Silva Freitas
Role
Bio
Rúben Freitas is a PhD student at the University of Madeira, specializing in Artificial Intelligence, currently enrolled at MARE – Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre, Regional Agency for the Development of Research Technology and Innovation (ARDITI). He is now a Software Developer at MARE-Madeira and is actively involved inside a special research interest group (Wave Labs), enabling web-based technologies for marine data science.
During his master multidisciplinary thesis “Web-based ENM Interfaces”, He explored modelling using multimodal variables, allowing marine scientists to predict the occurrence of specific types of marine species. In his PhD research, Rúben aim is to further expand the modelling, leveraging machine and deep learning pipelines in web-based interfaces, making them easy to use and understand for marine scientists.
Rúben aspires to contribute to understanding the anthropogenic impact on marine ecosystems.
