Technician (MSc) – LANTERN Project
Join the LANTERN Project at MARE–Madeira / ARDITI and help explore marine biodiversity around Madeira using innovative light trap technology!
What’s the project about?
LANTERN focuses on developing low-cost light traps to study marine life, with a special emphasis on zooplankton, including fish and crustacean larvae.
You’ll be involved in:
– Testing and improving light trap designs
– Conducting biodiversity surveys (field + lab)
– Participating in outreach activities (including school workshops)
Who we’re looking for:
• MSc in Marine Biology, Oceanography, Ecology, or related field
• Experience in zooplankton / ichthyoplankton taxonomy
• Strong ID skills in fish larvae &/or crustacean (Malacostraca) larvae/juveniles
• Organized, detail-oriented, and team-minded
• Good English communication
Your role:
• Deploy & manage light traps in coastal waters
• Process and identify zooplankton samples
• Manage datasets & support analysis
• Contribute to reports, presentations & outreach
Location: Funchal, Madeira (ARDITI facilities + fieldwork)
Salary: €1,603.51/month (gross)
Contract: 12 months (starting July 2026)
