Afonso Loureiro is a geophysicist specialising in ocean-bottom seismology (OBS) and marine seismic imaging. He joined ARDITI in 2023, where he coordinates the scientific exploitation of the GeoLab fibre across seismology, oceanography, and marine biology, fostering interdisciplinary approaches to subsea research. He is currently Principal Investigator on the ECHO project, focused on characterising the response of submarine distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) to varying physical properties.

Alongside his scientific work, he writes fantasy and science fiction, exploring speculative worlds and narratives that often intersect with themes of science and discovery.
