Joana Vasconcelos is an Assistant Professor Invited at the Faculty of Life Sciences of the University of Madeira and an Associate Researcher at MARE – Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre.
Joana completed a PhD in Biological Sciences at University of Madeira in 2017. From 2009 to 2016, she performed teaching functions in Basic and Secondary Education (Biology and Geology) at the Regional Secretariat for Education, Science and Technology. Since 2003, she has been a collaborator in the Regional Fisheries Directorate of the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Fisheries. After completing her doctorate, she undertook several international scientific stays, including a post-doctorate at Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción (Chile), and the development of short-term projects at Kristineberg Center för Marin Forskning Och Innovation of the University of Gotebörg (Lysekil) and at EAWAG (Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology), Center for Ecology & Evolution and Biogeochemistry (Switzerland). In the past 4 years she has published 25 papers (21 SCI, 42% Q1, 48% 1st or last author) and 1 book chapter and has collaborated on 4 international projects (KVA, INTERREG and DG-MARE).
