Soledad Álvarez is a research technician at MARE – Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre, Regional Agency for the Development of Research Technology and Innovation (ARDITI).
Soledad graduated in Environmental Sciences at the University of Valencia (Spain) in 2011. On 2012 she moved to Madeira Island to participate in the international programs Leonardo da Vinci, European Voluntary Service and INTERREG projects at Funchal Ecological Park and SPEA-Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds, directing her internships to the habitat and native species conservation and environmental education. In 2017 she continued her research at MARE-Madeira focused on the marine litter topic, non-indigenous species introduction and ocean literacy. She has a broad interest in understanding the global human impact on the environment, specifically, the threat of marine litter in ecosystems, marine biological invasions and how to contribute with ocean literacy to a better marine environment.
