Sónia Costa is a Science and Technology Manager and Communicator at Oceanic Observatory of Madeira (OOM) and a Researcher at MARE – Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre, Regional Agency for the Development of Research Technology and Innovation (ARDITI).
Sónia has a PhD degree in Biology (Ecology) from the University of Coimbra, Portugal, where she started her scientific route in estuarine ecology and ecotoxicology. Nowadays, she focuses her work on ocean literacy and science communication. Sónia develops and organises several regional initiatives to improve the knowledge and public perception of science, marine biodiversity and conservation. Either she gave speeches about several ocean subjects for students of several ages in Madeira schools.
